Twilight Conquered the 3rd National Movie Awards

Last May 26 at the National Movie Awards, it proved to be the night for the Twilight series. Vampires and werewolves showed that they were the one to beat. The series took home two major awards, including the coveted Most Anticipated Summer Movie award, beating two major sequels. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse grabbed the trophy over Sex and City 2 (a sequel to the big screen adaptation of the award-winning and highly successful HBO comedy series which starred Sarah Jessica Parker and the rest of her fashionable posses) and Toy Story 3 (the third installment of the much-loved Toy Story which featured the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen). Eclipse will be shown in theaters on June 30, while SATC 2 will hit cinemas on May 27, 2010 and Toy Story 3 on June 18. If you want, you can Watch Eclipse online.
The second installment of the Twilight series New Moon won the Best Fantasy movie. The film directed by Chris Weitz overtook seasoned directors like James Cameron for the 3D megahit Avatar, Tim Burton and his psychedelic take on Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland, and French director Louis Leterrier who is best known for his movies like Transporter 2 and The Incredible Hulk. Robert Pattinson was solely nominated for Best Performance. He played Edward Cullen. But he was not able to attend the event because he shooting a film. Co-star Peter Facinelli received the award. Interestingly enough, there were no nominees for Best Female category. The Harry Potter franchise also took home two awards. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince grabbed Best Family movie. Harry Potter was also given the special Recognition Award. Tom Cruise accepted the Screen Icon award from Gwyneth Paltrow who went as presenter. The award ceremony was hosted by James Nesbitt, and was held annually at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
